Moscow Cycle

Sarah Schumann

 

In 1993, she painted the impressive six-part Moscow cycle. Western icons Silvia Bovenschen and Marilyn Monroe pop up in the eastern metropolis at the Grossmarkt, Red Square and Lenin's Mausoleum. The large-format cycle of paintings includes numerous gouaches of the same subjects that the artist photographed herself with Ina Ruge during her stay in Moscow.
